Holiday Cards: Parents Gone Missing!

We’ve identified a trend in the holiday photo cards that have been filling our mailbox: a noticeable absence of parents! And it’s not because we have sooooo many friends who are childfree. Nope. It’s because those who are parents opt to put their kids front and center on their cards and take themselves out entirely.

We’ve identified a trend in the holiday photo cards that have been filling our mailbox: a noticeable absence of parents! And it’s not because we have sooooo many friends who are childfree. Nope. It’s because those who are parents opt to put their kids front and center on their cards and take themselves out entirely.

We can’t help but wonder: what’s up with that? While we’re happy to see the kids in these families, it’s the parents who are our original friends in this equation. It’s not lost on us that their figurative disappearance since they’ve had kids is so accurately represented by their literal disappearance from their holiday greetings.

We think our own version of such a card would look something like this:

Ok, actually, that’s pretty awesome, if we do say so ourselves.

But we’d like to think our friends and family take as much interest in our lives as they do Crazy Baby’s. Likewise, we’d like to hear from and see our friends who have gone the way of parenthood every once in a while. Sure, their kids are cute (as is Crazy Baby, of course). But having kids shouldn’t mean you no longer have an identity of your own. Why not include the whole family in next year’s holiday photo?
